Fearing for your job in the workplace can actually lead to reduced productivity and unnecessary stress. According to Tom Reiger, author of "Breaking the Fear Barrier," on-the-job anxiety is "caused primarily by a fear of loss: fear of not getting a bonus, not meeting a goal, losing decision rights, losing something." Unless workers resolve to stamp out fear in their workplace, says Reiger, "avoiding a loss can be more motivating than striving for a gain." Also featured in this article is Jonathan Fields, who has confronted fear in his career and now has advice for employees and companies facing their own twists and turns. Fields is a former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission lawyer who chose to leave a lucrative career to start a yoga studio. He founded Sonic Yoga and signed the lease and opened his business – on Sept. 10, 2001. Though his new business was initially hurt by Sept 11th, it was eventually a tremendous success, and he has now written "Uncertainty: Turning Fear and Doubt into Fuel for Brilliance."
