According to a study from Australia, discussing sleep strategies with your children can help them settle into school with better nighttime routines. The study found that children tend to have better bedtime routines and fewer sleep problems when they have sleep-related consultations with parents. Pediatric sleep specialist Judy Mindell says, “Making sure your child goes to bed before nine- we know that that’s the tipping point, including reading as part of the bedtime routine- it helps calm children down, it gives them a focus, it helps with literacy, it’s all good. Then encouraging children to fall asleep on their own.” Another important thing to remember is to make sure that there are no distracting electronics in the room, such as computers and cell phones.
