Rules are important, but there are times when common sense should dictate that it's ok to make an exception to the rule. In fact, it's good business sense, and it requires a thinking human being; it's something for which modern technology has no substitute. For example, the family that arrives early before check-in time at the hotel where you work: if you can find a room for them, why not accommodate them– even though the rule says check-in time is 3pm? Chances are, you will have loyal customers for life.
