This summer, a new program, Venture for America, will place 50 recent graduates at small businesses in struggling cities (inner city areas that have burgeoning start-up scenes but are in need of talent). The businesses will pay the participants $32,000 to $38,000 a year, plus health benefits. The goal is to help start-ups and early-stage businesses get off the ground, and the target is to create 100,000 jobs by 2025. The program includes five weeks of training at Brown University. Basically, Venture for America wants to connect small businesses who need employees capable of wearing many hats with graduates who want to learn the basics of starting a new company. Jen Medbery, founder and CEO of Drop the Chalk, one of the small businesses involved in Venture for America, says the program will help by "picking the best and brightest from the top colleges and making it affordable for me to hire and mentor them."
