In this opinion piece, Dr. Roy Benaroch highlights the confusing position the FDA has taken on BPA. In banning the chemical from baby bottles and children's drinking cups, they recently reversed the previous policy they had announced in March. Meanwhile, because of public concern, most manufacturers had already chosen to remove BPA from their baby bottles and other products, so the “ban,” in fact, just told companies to keep doing what they’d already been doing. Still, the FDA maintains that the chemical is safe, and it can continue to be used in other food packaging, including packaging for infant formula, and they’re still looking into it. Says Dr. Benaroch, "I’m not sure that their partial ban is going to help anyone feel more confident about that."
