Joli Russo, whose parents are both cancer survivors, has participated in fund-raising fashion shows for children with cancer and celiac disease, and both she and her mom give time to the Howard Beach Cancer Research Foundation. Joli and her mother also volunteer at the River Fund, a food pantry on Coney Island. Joli wears her tiara and sash when she volunteers there, saying she enjoys doing so because it makes so many people happy. Her mother explains, "Joli has recognition of the world outside herself… I feel it’s very important to give back to the earth that God has created.
