Tackling Concerns of Independent Workers

The Freelancers Union offers a collective voice– not to mention health insurance and other benefits– to a growing multitude of independent workers who don't have full time jobs with corporate benefits. Rather than pay for full-time employee salaries and the added cost of health insurance, pension benefits, and paid vacations, more companies today are choosing to hire freelancers or independent contractors. There are also those who decide to take a chance and start their own businesses. Sara Horowitz, Executive Director of the Freelancer's Union, says the Union is bringing these workers together. She explains, "People feel mentally and physically better when they feel connected to each other. What we're doing brings people together without them losing any individual aspects of themselves."
