A nonprofit organization called Sing for Hope is working to make the arts more accessible to the public in a fun way. Now in its third consecutive year, the Sing for Hope Pianos project is bringing music into the community by placing 88 keyboards around the city of New York, allowing anyone the chance to play the piano in a park or other outdoor space in one of the five boroughs. At the end of the project, all of the pianos, which are decorated by local artists, are brought to a central location for a day of music and fun before being donated to schools, hospitals and local community centers. Author Anthony Tommasini shares his experiences playing and listening to the pianos at different locations, noting that it was a great way to make new friends and also to enjoy the company of others while enjoying outdoor music and supporting a great cause.
